[RL 10: SHOPPING! - Edgeworth, Maraich]

[samuraiprosecutor]

[opens the door at Maraich's knock. goggles at the baby-maintaining products that seem to be filling his doorstep]

[Has to bring lots of baby supplies, of course. They were going to be out most the day, and the baby wasn't about to stop pooping for their outting]

Of course I am! What sort of mother wouldn't be?

[Peeks into the doorway, obviously trying to get a look]

I need to borrow those DVDs still, too.

[samuraiprosecutor]

[steps back into the apartment, opens the door wider and gestures Maraich in.]

A poor one. Is there anything you'd like before we leave?

[walks over to the living room, grabs Steel Samurai box set off the side table.]

[maraich]

[Maraich was making himself quite happy checking out Edgeworth's stuff. Fancy~. And when Edgeworth handed him the DVD cover, he took a look at that, too.]

Wait, he's a robot samurai? I thought you guys didn't have robots yet.

[Seems perfectly content staying there and looking at Edgeworth's stuff.]

[samuraiprosecutor]

[confused stare, glances at the cover, realization dawning with a smirk]

There are only simple robots on our world. Androids and other more complex types are relegated to our fiction. The Steel Samurai isn't a robot, though, he's only a man in armor.

[fanboy mode ON] There's been a trend recently towards robotic protagonists. Personally, I believe the Samurai's humanity makes the odds he overcomes far more impressive.

[maraich]

Oh. So it's just a suit? Does he ever take it off in the show?

[He totally didn't see any speeches coming his way. After all, it was just a show, right?]

So why does he wear a suit like this?

[samuraiprosecutor]

[well you DID ask for it] No, he's never shown without it. The character's mystery is a part of his appeal. The suit serves that purpose, as well as the more practical need for protection in battle.

It also allows the viewer to more easily imagine themselves in the title role. [pause, averts his eyes] For those who...do that sort of thing.

[maraich]

[Didn't expect Edgeworth to have that much to say about it. He quietly wonders if Edgeworth dressed up and went to conventions... Nah.]

I guess that makes sense. I'll just have to see for myself.

So should we head out?

[samuraiprosecutor]

[pounces eagerly on the chance to change the subject. wants to believe that was the truth virus' effects, but he knows how carried away he can get when it comes to The Steel Samurai.]

If the DVDs work. You do have to decide if the show is appropriate. [glances at Matthias, gaze uncertain. not exactly accustomed to dealing with children.]

The earlier, the better. My car is on the first floor of the parking structure.

[maraich]

If they don't work, I'll just get someone to invent a machine they will work on.
Or I'll borrow a DVD player.

[where he lived they often walked to shops. He wasn't expecting to drive somewhere]

Ah, I didn't know we were driving. I'm sure the baby carrier changes into a carseat somehow...

[samuraiprosecutor]

I should think borrowing one would be easier.

[smirk] There is very little in this area that's close enough to walk to. Los Angeles is an extremely large city.

[eyes the baby carrier warily. it looks...complicated.] You don't know how to convert it?

[maraich]

I've never had any reason to put it in a car before. It can't be that hard!

[He thought it must be a hassle to not be able to walk to the stores you need. But, that wasn't a big deal since Edgeworth had a car.]

[packing up all his stuff to go]

So what kind of car do you have?

[samuraiprosecutor]

[thoroughly unconvinced, and totally clueless] Should we...convert it here or by the car?

[perks up a bit] A Mercedes-Benz CLK coupe. V-8, 475 horsepower. Storm Red with a black interior. [smirk, obviously proud] It's a bit older. I've had it for several years but I enjoy it too much to trade it in. And at this point it's almost like a...signature, if you will.

[maraich]

By the car! It would be kind of pointless to try and convert it here.

[Not totally clueless, but mostly. Of course, given that the car Edgeworth was talking about probably wasn't made by 1984, Maraich wouldn't know much about it.]

So you drive a lot around here?

[Doesn't know which car it is on his own, but when Edgey takes him there he'll start trying to convert the carseat on the ground next to it.]

[samuraiprosecutor]

Very well. [opens the front door, holding it open for Maraich, gets out his keys to lock it behind them]

Driving is a necessity here. As I said, it's a large city. I don't understand how Wright survives without a car.

[maraich]

London is big, but we do a lot of walking.

[exits to the hallway and waits to follow Edgeworth. He doesn't know where they're going, after all]

I usually just carry groceries and stuff home. But it's just me and Matthias.
