[Event 1: Phoenix's Birthday Party!]

The Montefaire Hotel is located in southwest LA, a short distance from Los Angeles International Airport and (more importantly) fairly convenient to Phoenix's apartment. Forty stories tall, the Montefaire towers over most of the surrounding buildings, and at only a few months old the stone of its facade is still an elegant, unmarred white. By seven o' clock the building will be dramatically up-lit against the full dark that's settled over the city, with particular accent paid to the massive multi-story columns that frame the main entrance.

Once inside, guests will find a luxurious lobby, three dining establishments (two five star restaurants, and a more casual cafe serving light meals and cold or hot beverages twenty four hours a day), a world-class spa, a gym, and ballrooms and conference rooms ready to be reserved for almost any occasion. Elevators are situated in niches on either side of the lobby, ready take guests to their rooms and the balconies on the upper floors. Every inch of the building's interior is spotless and scrupulously maintained by the staff members, most of whom flitter around the hotel, almost invisible until they're needed.

((OOC: Since my descriptions fail and I don't have time to go research all the design styles like I want to, have a few links. The Montefaire is based off the Fairmont in San Francisco (Gatewater : Watergate :: Montefaire : Fairmont lol) with liberties taken here and there, and keeping in mind that we're in the year 2019. So picture this at forty stories tall.

Invitations were given out, but crashers are welcome. :Db If anyone wants to get started they shouldn't wait for Phoenix or anything, we're both uber busy and may not be around much until after the weekend's over. Oh, and if you want to use the spa or any of the unlisted locations, just stick them under the lobby. XD Enjoy~!))
maraich: (Simply gorgeous)

The first thing Maraich thought upon entering the hotel was that it didn't look very Phoenix-y. For a brief moment he had to wonder whether he was even in the right place. It was much too elaborate and expensive for Phoenix.

At least he was dressed for the occasion in a simple, but elegant satin top and bottom. Both pieces were a dark, luxurious purple. The top hung slightly off his shoulders with long sleeves and a small, detailed design of a rose on the right side. The pants were made of the same fabric and ruffled out at the bottom. What little could be seen of his shoes showed that they unsurprisingly matched the outfit, although the heels seemed smaller than normal.
He carried Matthias into the room with one arm and held the cake in the other hand. He hoped that it was enough for all the guests - it was a rather normal sized cake. Although he was no professional baker he had done what he could to fancy it up. The cake itself was a basic yellow cake - although he went through the extra effort to get a nice chocolate pudding in the middle - with milk chocolate frosting, just like Phoenix had mentioned. He bought a few colorful tubes of frosting to decorate the top and some sprinkle to let Matthias throw on it. Because of that the majority of the sprinkles were on one side of the cake.
All around the edge he'd drawn a swirly pattern in red and in the middle he'd written "Happy Birthday Phoenix" as neatly as he could with blue frosting, making the two "i"s red neckties. At least if one thought about it for a second they would realize that they were supposed to be neckties.

He headed straight for the table to set the cake down. It was becoming quite a pain carrying it along with the baby.

Karen was awestruck by the elegance of the hotel lobby as she walked in. It took a lot to get her to stare at her surroundings like that, but "a lot" was certainly what was here.

It didn't take her long to make her way over to where the fireplace was, gift (consisting of some of Komachi's mamedaifuku and a pair of figurines--they were characters from some video game who bore a truly bizarre resemblance to Mr. Wright and Maya) in hand.

"Hey, Karen!" Out of nowhere, Larry appeared. Being as tactless as he was with no consideration for personal space, he threw his arm around Karen's shoulders. "Glad you could make it!"

April's walk slowed as she approached the entrance of the hotel. She should have been expecting something like this- but the opulence that surrounded her still made her give a small sound of wonder. Smiling a bit and shaking her head- She should have guessed Edgeworth would pick someplace so elegant. In her hand was a small thin package a half gag gift with an actual present in it.

"Wow."

It was still early and not many people had arrived, so Phoenix spent the majority of his time wandering around the ballroom, not quite sure what to make of its sheer… everything. Renting out a ballroom must have cost a pretty penny, one he was sure neither Maya nor Larry had to spare. Phoenix had his suspicions, of course, but his thoughts were cut short when he caught sight of Maraich and Matthias.

“Hey,” he greeted as he came up to them. His attention was immediately diverted by what was on the table, however, and he couldn’t help but grin. “I see you brought the cake.”
maraich: (Heh heh?)

[personal profile] maraich 2008-11-30 07:05 am (UTC)(link)
"Phoenix!" Maraich glanced up from the table as he gently pushed the cake on it. Just as he had the cake set down, Matthias reached out and squished the corner of the cake with his hand. It took Maraich a second to notice, and then he was immediately grabbing Matthias' hand out of the cake.

"Don't do that!" Maraich scolded him as the toddler nonchalantly stuck his fingers in his mouth. Maraich pushed the cake further away but it was too late. Half of the "x" on "Phoenix" had been squashed.
"Well, it was a very nice cake," Maraich assured him, holding onto Matthias' hand to try and keep cake remains from getting all over, "I don't suppose you know where the napkins are?"

When you have friends like Nozomi, having your personal space abruptly invaded starts to become a regular occurrence. After a while, even someone like Karen will learn to suppress her instinctive urge to scream and jump about ten feet into the air.

Tensing up is essentially unavoidable, though.

"Ah--h-hello, Larry," Karen said, just before taking a deep breath to try to calm herself down.

Only Rufus would crash a party, then be antisocial in it. Though, in his defense, he had never seen a skyline like the Los Angeles one in a very, very long time. It reminded him of the skyline that he could see on the upper plate of Midgar. Though, this was nothing like it. He leaned in his very expensive jacket, drink (already?) in his hand and watched everything that went by. He'd managed to get a VIP balcony (one does not ask how Rufus get things, it involves a very long sequence of events that doesn't end favorably for the other party) on the fortieth floor.

In all retrospect, the blond would join people downstairs in just one moment. He didn't want to hang around anyone else, he just wanted to give Phoenix the gift and leave before Dark realized he stole the car.

[identity profile] sexforbreakfast.livejournal.com 2008-11-30 05:52 pm (UTC)(link)
It wouldn't have taken long for Dark to have noticed his missing car; he treated it like a living thing and did tweaks on it regularly, where he noticed it was gone when he went down to the basement to check the engine. Finding Rufus in one world out of a million others was always a fun task, but he had a fairly good feeling where Rufus (and his precious car) would be.

"You could've just asked, you know," he said, appearing behind Rufus and dropping feathers onto the stone balcony.

[identity profile] know-sacrifice.livejournal.com 2008-11-30 06:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Mikaela was glad she's decided to err on the side of ritzy for this when she saw the hotel the party was being held at. One of her little Target or thrift store dresses (but don't tell her friends, who thought she had a source for some unknown designer) definitely would have looked out of place here; the one Bruce had bought her for his gala most certainly did not.

Trying her best not to look overwhelmed, clutching her bag--her gift for Phoenix tucked inside--she went to the desk to find out where the party was, then turned and started making her way through the lobby, still looking around appreciatively.

[identity profile] shinra-pwnsjoo.livejournal.com 2008-11-30 06:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Rufus didn't turn around, the voice was too familiar and it always sent the same feeling up his spine. He continued to watch the skyline, though he was always amazed that Dark could find him no matter where he was. The blond smirked, "Sometimes I think you love that car more than me, Dark Mousy."

He stood up properly, "It's beautiful here, don't you agree?"

[identity profile] sexforbreakfast.livejournal.com 2008-11-30 06:13 pm (UTC)(link)
"That's because it actually listens to me," Dark argued. He wrapped his arms around Rufus from behind - but it was actually so that he could snatch away Rufus' glass and drink its contents. He immediately made a face; he couldn't share Rufus' taste for strong, bitter drinks.

"Not too bad," Dark said, looking up at the sky. It was a bit of a lie - big cities wasn't his thing, especially with this kind of pollution.

[identity profile] shinra-pwnsjoo.livejournal.com 2008-11-30 06:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Rufus could feel Dark lie behind him. The businessman leaned against the other man and watched the street below, looking at a cherry red convertible with a raised eyebrow before surveying his drink.

"Would you have drunk the car's drink?" He replied somewhat childishly before setting it out on the balcony. It was nice and quiet, a rare moment that Rufus had that indulge in.

[identity profile] sexforbreakfast.livejournal.com 2008-11-30 06:39 pm (UTC)(link)
"Don't give me that. I'm only teasing." Dark cleared his throat to help the bitter taste go down, and squeezed Rufus' chest gently. They hadn't had a quiet moment like this in a while. "What brought you here, anyway?"

[identity profile] shinra-pwnsjoo.livejournal.com 2008-11-30 06:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Rufus relaxed slightly into Dark's arms, sucking all the body heat out of the other man. He savored the moment, breathing regularly - the pollution here was nothing compared to Midgar's thick fogs that he had grown up around, even with the filters.

"No reason," Rufus lied, even though there was a package on the railing, "I read about the hotel in a magazine. I may purchase it just for the view."

Entering the lobby of the hotel, the first thing that occurred to Giro was "Wow." Just the front room of this immense building was more than he'd ever seen before, even considering all the places he's gone in the capacity of his delivery job. A small gift was held in one hand, and he held it to his body as he glanced around, half still soaking in the atmosphere, half looking for anyone he might know.

[identity profile] sexforbreakfast.livejournal.com 2008-11-30 07:11 pm (UTC)(link)
"The whole hotel?" Dark already knew the real reason for Rufus being here, but would humor him and not push it. No need to ruin the good mood, after all. He nuzzled the back of Rufus' neck. "One thing at a time, dear."

If you knew Cross Marian, his visage was very hard to miss. A head of newly cropped short red hair, and a very smart - almost flashy black suit that had looked like it took a lot of effort to make it seem less flamboyant as Cross' clothes usually wore. Of course, he came in with a woman on his arm, though by the end of the night, he might end up in another woman's bedroom, no one ever knew with Cross.

... or one could call him Algernon. He sought out Phoenix, with a little girl trailing behind him.

[identity profile] shinra-pwnsjoo.livejournal.com 2008-11-30 07:37 pm (UTC)(link)
"Why not? Though, I do like the Fairmont from our world." Rufus purred, almost turned on by the thought of doing business and taking over another corporation. He almost wanted to tell Dark about the Swiss bank account, but that was for Dark just in case something happened or more importantly for Rufus just in case he needed funding on Earth.

"We could have the penthouse to ourselves."

[identity profile] sexforbreakfast.livejournal.com 2008-11-30 07:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Rufus was doing a lot of work in shady business that Dark didn't know about, but at the same time, he didn't really want to know. Whatever made him happy.

"Now you're talking." The idea of a penthouse easily caught his attention. They had plenty of places they could stay in, but each one was different from the other.

Pretty fancy, Trish thought. She came actually dressed up (meaning she wore a jacket over the corset) and had her hair up. She didn't know who Phoenix was, but if he threw a good party, who was she to complain? Though, from the looks of it- and the looks that people were giving the demon - it was pretty stale. Trish sighed, she kind of wished that she brought Dante or Lady with her with this. But, a part of her wanted to come alone to this event to see what happened.

[identity profile] shinra-pwnsjoo.livejournal.com 2008-11-30 08:09 pm (UTC)(link)
"Do you like waking in a new place everyday?" Rufus asked absentmindedly, though if it was anyone else, they would have missed the probing question behind the nonchalance. There were a lot of things about Dark that Rufus liked - or even loved - and it was the fact that Dark didn't ask him about his work and Rufus didn't ask him about Dark's past. Whatever he had was good enough for him.
