[OOC: Edgeworth's Thoughts on Yaoi]

I blame Kaito. Not really safe for work.

In my headcanon, Edgeworth's pretty much always been averse to physical contact. When he was a kid it wasn't a major aversion, he just didn't touch people and rarely had people touch him (save for Phoenix, Larry, and his dad). When he was taken into the von Karma household his aversion just got worse.

It makes sense, then, that his first kiss didn't come until his late teens. He'd already begun to reject conventional notions of love when he was a child, but he didn't have the same qualms about more prurient interests. Sex was (and still is) all about feeding a natural compulsion and releasing tension; he avoided it for a long time (cause he's obviously got better things to do) but when he decided he wanted it he just up and did it.

Nowadays Edgeworth pays for sex on the rare occasions he wants it--not because he can't get it any other way, but because all the other ways carry too many risks. Getting it at work brings too high a chance of it affecting his job or of the other person developing attachments he doesn't need; he doesn't socialize (not to mention that also carries risks of unwanted interest); and when you go out and randomly pick people up there's no telling what you're getting, or how discreet your partner will be. Hence, high-dollar escorts are the way to go!

At the time of his first encounter, however, he hadn't developed that policy. He was 18, and nearing the end of his apprenticeship, the last couple of years of which were taken up by studying law and procedure in various European countries. While in France he worked with a liaison of sorts, a slightly older, soft-spoken Parisien. The man made his attraction clear, though he was the picture of discretion in the workplace and never pressed the matter. When Edgeworth finally decided to indulge, Monsieur Leveque was only too happy to oblige.

The encounter was less than perfect. Edgeworth was somewhat awkward (all the reading one can do in preparation for that particular event still isn't going to correct all of the first-timer's problems), and his selfish attitude toward sex was already apparent. It ended up being far more satisfying on his part than his partner's, a result he had no problems with. Somewhere in the midst of it Leveque initiated a deep (and very experienced) kiss; Edgeworth reciprocated only a few moments before breaking it, and did the same with every other attempt until Leveque gave up and moved to kissing other places.

Needless to say, their encounter was never repeated. Edgeworth showed no further interest afterward, and Leveque wasn't eager to duplicate the experience. There were a few similar incidents with acquaintances before Edgeworth decided on the 'you don't pay them for the sex, you pay them to leave afterward' school of thought. He still doesn't initiate kissing, though he's more likely to go with it when it comes up. For him, kissing simply can indicate too easily something other than simple lust, something he'd rather avoid...and beyond that he's just not that into it. There are plenty of things that do it for him far better than kissing does. It's not exactly abhorrent to him, but it's really a take-it-or-leave-it kind of deal.
