39: A small test...

Certain upcoming plans have reminded me that I have yet to post this. I saw it on [livejournal.com profile] blutendimpulsge's journal some time ago, but neglected to do it myself. The following are quotes from some of my favorite films. The goal, of course, is to figure out which films. Correct answers will be rewarded with a measure of respect for your obviously excellent taste in movies. It should go without saying, but I'm sure there's a need to say it anyway; refrain from looking up the answers on the internet.

1. What a creature must sit on the throne who lets a man like you deal out his justice.

2. My theory is that everyone is a potential murderer.

3. Rupert's extremely radical. Do you know that he selects his books on the assumption that people not only can read but actually can think?

4. Man is born crying. When he has cried enough, he dies.

5. Only by interrogating the other passengers could I hope to see the light, but when I began to question them, the light, as Macbeth would have said, thickened. -Guessed by Wright

6. --I haven't lived a good life. I've been bad, worse than you could know.

--You know, that's good, because if you actually were as innocent as you pretend to be, we'd never get anywhere.
-Guessed by [livejournal.com profile] darkmirror_vr2

7. You Americans, you're all the same. Always overdressing for the wrong occasions. -Guessed by Wright

8. We are men of action, lies do not become us. -Guessed by [livejournal.com profile] machine_purist

9. Quaffable, but uh...far from transcendent.

10. I heard the music of true forgiveness filling the theater, conferring on all who sat there, perfect absolution. God was singing through this little man to all the world, unstoppable, making my defeat more bitter with every passing bar. -Guessed by [livejournal.com profile] sine_sole_sileo

11. Progress always comes late.

12. People gotta talk themselves into law and order before they do anything about it. Maybe because down deep they don't care. They just don't care.

13. And really, I think what we're talking about is standards, basically; very, very specific, rigid, you could say, but in this world where would we be without them, I think. And notice where we are.

14. History comes in black and white. Hindsight comes in shades of grey.

15. --I don't know if I oughta go sailin' down no hill with nothin' between the ground and my brains but a piece of government plastic.

--Do you really think it matters, E-?
-Guessed by Wright

Additionally, I'm curious. What movies would you recommend?

#7 is Indiana Jones and #15 is Christmas Vacation. And since you enjoyed that one so much, might I also recommend Vacation and Vegas Vacation?
attorneyatlol: (Hmm...)

[personal profile] attorneyatlol 2008-04-07 05:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Also, this is just a guess based on the dialogue, but is #5 from Murder on the Orient Express?
attorneyatlol: (Drama queen)

[personal profile] attorneyatlol 2008-04-08 05:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Only a modicum? And here I thought we were friends.

I think the mistake lies in listing Christmas Vacation as one of your favorites in the first place. I was under the impression that you hadn't really enjoyed it.
attorneyatlol: (Hoo boy...)

[personal profile] attorneyatlol 2008-04-08 07:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Tell that to my breaking heart.

You obviously underestimated me. You should probably stop doing that. One's heart can take only so many surprises, or so I've heard.

Oh. Did you want me to pick it up?
attorneyatlol: (le shock!)

[personal profile] attorneyatlol 2008-04-09 05:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Underrating the value of your own opinions? You should have your ego checked, Edgeworth; I think it's broken.

Or you could keep it for a while, since you seem so fond of it.

I would like it back by next Christmas, though.
attorneyatlol: (Hmm...)

[personal profile] attorneyatlol 2008-04-09 05:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Hm. Maybe a knock upside head would do it. That usually fixes the TV.

I could... if you wanted me to.
attorneyatlol: (I KNOW WHAT I DOING)

[personal profile] attorneyatlol 2008-04-09 06:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Why, Edgeworth, I'd be more than happy to.

Actually, why not kill two birds with one stone? I could stop by, pick up my DVD, and smack you over the head with it before I leave.
attorneyatlol: (Hoo boy...)

[personal profile] attorneyatlol 2008-04-10 03:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Believe me, it's no trouble at all.
attorneyatlol: (Uhhh...?!)

attorneyatlol: (well fuck)

You know, the fact that you have to keep him caged should tell you something.
attorneyatlol: (mm? whazzat)

Whatever you say...

Should I come by this weekend?

[identity profile] machine-purist.livejournal.com 2008-04-07 06:33 am (UTC)(link)
Isn't 8 from The Princess Bride?

[identity profile] machine-purist.livejournal.com 2008-04-08 09:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Nice to know it's such good thing to share.

[identity profile] machine-purist.livejournal.com 2008-04-10 02:20 am (UTC)(link)
A lot.

[identity profile] re-formed.livejournal.com 2008-04-07 06:33 am (UTC)(link)

I don't really know movies.

[identity profile] re-formed.livejournal.com 2008-04-08 05:04 pm (UTC)(link)
So I've been told.

[identity profile] darkmirror-vr2.livejournal.com 2008-04-07 06:59 am (UTC)(link)
I think six is from The Maltese Falcon, isn't it? That's the only one I recognize. Don't actually watch a lot of movies.

[identity profile] darkmirror-vr2.livejournal.com 2008-04-08 04:55 pm (UTC)(link)
I think that may be because some worlds are so similar; especially the Earths. I do remember seeing it when it first came out, though.

[identity profile] sine-sole-sileo.livejournal.com 2008-04-07 04:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, number ten is from "Amadeus". Beautiful movie.

(Oh, the audacity, Polly!)

[identity profile] sine-sole-sileo.livejournal.com 2008-04-08 03:39 pm (UTC)(link)
It's a surprisingly accurate interpretation of Salieri and Mozart's relationship and life.

(Yep! 8D)

[identity profile] sine-sole-sileo.livejournal.com 2008-04-08 06:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Not intimately, no. But I did follow their progress closely.
