39: A small test...
Certain upcoming plans have reminded me that I have yet to post this. I saw it on
blutendimpulsge's journal some time ago, but neglected to do it myself. The following are quotes from some of my favorite films. The goal, of course, is to figure out which films. Correct answers will be rewarded with a measure of respect for your obviously excellent taste in movies. It should go without saying, but I'm sure there's a need to say it anyway; refrain from looking up the answers on the internet.
1. What a creature must sit on the throne who lets a man like you deal out his justice.
2. My theory is that everyone is a potential murderer.
3. Rupert's extremely radical. Do you know that he selects his books on the assumption that people not only can read but actually can think?
4. Man is born crying. When he has cried enough, he dies.
5.Only by interrogating the other passengers could I hope to see the light, but when I began to question them, the light, as Macbeth would have said, thickened. -Guessed by Wright
6.--I haven't lived a good life. I've been bad, worse than you could know.
--You know, that's good, because if you actually were as innocent as you pretend to be, we'd never get anywhere. -Guessed by

7.You Americans, you're all the same. Always overdressing for the wrong occasions. -Guessed by Wright
8.We are men of action, lies do not become us. -Guessed by
machine_purist
9. Quaffable, but uh...far from transcendent.
10.I heard the music of true forgiveness filling the theater, conferring on all who sat there, perfect absolution. God was singing through this little man to all the world, unstoppable, making my defeat more bitter with every passing bar. -Guessed by

11. Progress always comes late.
12. People gotta talk themselves into law and order before they do anything about it. Maybe because down deep they don't care. They just don't care.
13. And really, I think what we're talking about is standards, basically; very, very specific, rigid, you could say, but in this world where would we be without them, I think. And notice where we are.
14. History comes in black and white. Hindsight comes in shades of grey.
15.--I don't know if I oughta go sailin' down no hill with nothin' between the ground and my brains but a piece of government plastic.
--Do you really think it matters, E-? -Guessed by Wright
Additionally, I'm curious. What movies would you recommend?

It might have been a mistake to ask for recommendations.

I think the mistake lies in listing Christmas Vacation as one of your favorites in the first place. I was under the impression that you hadn't really enjoyed it.

It's so overblown in its stupidity that it has a certain charm. It simply took me two viewings to see it. Or should I say one and a half viewings. It being in the list was partially for your benefit. I worried the rest might be too difficult for you.
By the way, I still have your DVD.

You obviously underestimated me. You should probably stop doing that. One's heart can take only so many surprises, or so I've heard.
Oh. Did you want me to pick it up?

I'm afraid old habits die hard.
If you'd like.

Or you could keep it for a while, since you seem so fond of it.
I would like it back by next Christmas, though.

By next Christmas? You aren't scheming to subject me to it again this holiday season?
no subject
I could... if you wanted me to.
no subject
If I gave you permission there would be no need for scheming. I'd hate to deprive you.

Actually, why not kill two birds with one stone? I could stop by, pick up my DVD, and smack you over the head with it before I leave.

Though, he might not be familiar with the concept of knocking some sense into someone.

Should I come by this weekend?

If you're only stopping by to pick up your DVD, though...I suppose I could find some time on Sunday.

Hm. It appears many of these films have multi-universal origins. Or did you see that one through our world?
