37: A tendency to overreact is not something I look for in a therapist.

Dr. Ellison appears to be unduly concerned. In spite of rather favorable results over the past months, he's seen fit to call on me multiple times in the past week. Often in the same day. At my office.

I might soon be in the market for a new therapist.

Not since the incident in which I broke my arm, at least six weeks ago. What is this about?

You don't seem to believe it, but you're the one who is acting oddly. I can't figure out why, though.

I don't know, doctor. Am I? Out of the two of us only one is an expert, and I'm afraid it's not me.

I believe I'll go with, "Yes", then. You should get some rest before it gets worse.

As I've tried to tell you ~~numerous times~~ I can't spare any hours off of work. If you have any other suggestions I might be willing to listen, but missing work is not an option.

'Of interest?' In what way?

People who earn enough interest from you to warrant talking to.

That's a short list. We've already discussed several of them. Perhaps you'll be able to introduce yourself, as many of them are members of a community here and frequent this site.

You'll have to suspend disbelief and believe that we haven't discussed them.

People of interest? Very well. The people I converse with on a regular basis are few, as you're well aware. The Detective I've told you about in the past. Butz, Miss Fey, Mikaela Barnes, Dr. Cuddy.

Those other two I spoke to you about; I haven't yet come to a decision on their respective situations.

Wright as well, there have been no further developments there since the incidents we discussed on Sunday. He claimed there would be no change in our...friendship.

And these two others. How do you plan on making a decision about them?

You know I can't condone what they've done. Whatever lives they've made for themselves since, there has been no judgment, no retribution, and no restitution.

How can you be so certain about what has or hasn't happened in their lives?

They've admitted as much. The one made the decision not to turn himself in to the authorities, so that he might bring to justice the people that ordered the killings.

The other was tried on reduced charges. According to record and as far as I've gathered from him, there was no mention of murder in his trial. I imagine the prosecutor on his case was less than pleased with the outcome of those negotiations.

Have you asked the prosecutor as much?

I don't need to. If the situation were to arise on one of my trials I would feel the same. A prosecutor's job is to make sure all criminals face the court's judgment, not to negotiate with those same criminals.

Right. And how many court documents have you looked into?

I've seen the public record. Obtaining anything else will be...difficult. He's admitted that a private company intervened on his behalf to expunge most of his government record.

I'm surprised. Usually you try a little harder to figure out what happened before you jump to conclusions.

So far it seems like all you've done is seen a court document that you know is incomplete and talk to someone who you know has reasons not to want to talk.

Reasons? I've made it clear what I want to know. If he did face trial for murder, there's no reason not to give me that information. It would only serve to demonstrate what I'm asking for, and is a far better alternative to allowing me to believe he escaped judgment on a technicality.

Instead of the assurance and remorse the other shows, he gives me excuses. Whatever issue I take with his past, such tactics don't earn him any favor either.
